Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I tend to be very.... critical with writing at times. When it comes to editing papers, I tend to be a bitch, partly because the majority of the papers I've looked over have no flow, stop in random places, repeat words, have horrible grammar and punctuation and generally make me want to bash my head into a wall...
Sometimes fanfiction tends to do that too, but the majority of fic writers I edit for actually have a basic grasp of the English language as well as propr flow, I tend to actually enjoy editing for them (if there's few errors, it makes my job easier).
I'm very blunt and straightforward, and when it comes to editing, I'm very hack and slash (meaning that when it comes to essay and story writing, my final draft is usually cut down by half because I've deemed a bunch of it unworthy) and while I tend to be less critical of others work, if you send me something completely idiotic, I will tell you so.
In a nice way of course, I may be sharp-tongued, but I'm very polite about it. Usually. Unless you piss me off, but that takes a lot.
My own writing tends to switch from angst to comedy to romance. I'm a very witty and sarcastic person and it shows in my writing. Everything I write has just a touch of humor to it, including the dark stuff. My sense of humor is very dark and morbid at times, and may actually disturb some people, but it's not like I care.
I write mainly yaoi pairings (if there is one) and I excel in drabble and introspection fics.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I tend to focus on characterization when writing. If I'm even somewhat familiar with a character I can write them and write them well.
I can also spot spelling mistakes and typos a mile off, so long as they're not actually in my own writing. I've missed so many when posting my own work that it sometimes gives me a headache when I look back on my older stuff.
I'm very quick witted and usually write very fast, though I often 'wrap' an entire story around a line or scenario I would like to see played out. I adapt really fast and my writing style seems to change from story to story, I can write all sorts of drabble-like fics from just one word or phrase or idea. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Punctuation tends to get away from me and I sometimes have a problem with my verb tenses, but that usually sticks to my own writing and not someone else's.
I'm also really bad at making typos, again, this is usually only occuring in my own writing.
I'm also very, very easily distracted. And my word-count tends to be low. Very, very low. I'm not very good at drawn out stories and because I have a low attention span/tend to multi-task, I tend to rush plots.
I'm often eager to get to one point in the story and quick to screw over the rest. But other than that, I'm a rather decent writer. Well, other people seem to like me anyways. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Since I'm mainly a yaoi author, I would rather beta writing with yaoi pairings. But, unlike some people, I'm pretty open-minded and will read just about anything within reason. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'm not particularly fond of reading hardcore yuri, though I don't mind yuri itself really. I also rarely read rape/non-con fics because so few can pull them off realistically. I abhor Mary-sues/Gary-stus, but OCs are fine as long as they're well rounded. |
