Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
When I beta-read, I try not to interfere too much with storyline. I will make exceptions if the characters are OOC or if original characters appear to be Mary Sues. I expect anyone I beta for to be willing to work with me to make their story the best it can be. If the author becomes defensive or appears to be ignoring the very foundations of characterization and canon in their story's universe, I will drop that author. I expect my authors to be canon whenever possible, although I will make exceptions for authors who wish to use fanon devices such as shared Head Boy/Head Girls' dorms if I believe they are strong enough to make the story work. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am extremely skilled with spelling and grammar and I am a fairly decent Brit-picker. I am extremely well versed in Harry Potter, Warriors, Castle, The Closer, X-Files, Star Trek, and Tortall canon. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I will admit to having little patience with writers who annoy me, and I am rather demanding in terms of quality. (In other words, I nitpick.) |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I mainly prefer romance or friendship stories, and for my preferred crime shows, I adore casefiles. I can and will cheerfully beta yaoi, yuri, and het smut. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will not beta Super!Harry, Dark!Harry, Dark!Hermione, etc... basically, if they're not dark in canon, I won't beta a story where they're dark. I won't beta mPreg. In the NCIS fandom, I absolutely will not tolerate stories that bash Jenny Shepard or Hollis Mann. |
