Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
When you PM me, please give me a little info on what your fanfic's about (a brief summary, if you please), pairings, warnings (cussing, blood/guts, big words, etc.), length (long, short, one shot, multi-chapter, etc), so on and so forth. I like knowing what I'm getting into. Oh, and I prefer using DocX to send and recieve documents, so if you don't know how to work it, just ask, and I'll gladly explain.
I'm more of a grammar nut than spelling, but I can correct most spelling errors. I'll make suggestions if a sentence is way off, but you don't have to listen to me. Please at least get the character names SPELLED properly (i.e. It's KAIRI, not CYRI). Will only Yaoi and Yuri if there is a storyline. Ask before sending (as you would anyway). OCs bug me if they are Mary-Sue. Please avoid OCs as the main characters. I'm not the fastest person, so it may take me a while to read through everything. But remember, slow and steady wins the race, and those who look at the details as well as the big picture tend to catch the mistakes. I'm not necessarily up-to-date on everything, but I will do my best. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar and making things readable. I'm also good at dialogue and description. Good at recognizing if a character is OOC or not. I also like to suggest how to make things better and while some take my suggestions, I make it easy to tell what it is I changed so that one can change it back if they don't agree. I also put notes explaining changes if necessary or things I might get confused on. Oh, and for all those international writers worried that I can't understand their English, I have proofread countless papers at my school that are probably worse than anything you can send. Believe me, I can make sense of anything anymore. I am also a fountain of useless information, or so people tell me. I especially know a little more about Europe (especially Victorian England) than should be legal of someone who isn't a history professor. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am a very blunt beta. If you don't like critique, don't ask me to beta.
It might take me a while. Not always up-to-date on series (despite my best efforts). My knowledge varies from series to series, but all the ones listed I have at least a basic knowledge of plot and main characters. Depends on the series and the kind of fanfic. Just ask me. I'll tell you how informed I am.
Spelling is not my strongest point, but that's what spellcheck was invented for. And I don't do British spellings. No colour in my spelling. XD |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I like serious stories only if there's a laugh every so often. Witty humor is my favorite. Little references (if you say what your referring to, at least) are welcome.
I love satire. Things that make me laugh until I can't breathe are always good.
I love romances, too, so feel free to send. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Naruto. NOTHING Naruto related.
Yaoi and Yuri without storylines. PLEASE make sure there's some kind of story to it and not just a chapter of mindlessness. And no PWP (Plot? What Plot?) And I don't particularly care for "Three-somes." Love triangles? Sure.
I also don't really appreciate incest fics.
Not a huge fan of Cross-Overs, either. Will accept ONLY if I know the series/characters that are being crossed-over. If I'm familiar with it, it will be listed as something I'll beta for.
OCs are annoying, so nothing with a million of them. Or one as the main character. Or self-inserts.
Preferably nothing with sports, unless it's dance. I don't know much about sports, so if it's a major part of the story, I won't be able to help you much. |
