Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello, My name is Shannon, mostly known as Fire Kunai or FireK or even just KF for the lazy online. I've been a member of fanfiction for six years since I discovered it when I was twelve years old. English has been a subject I always excelled but I aim to major in Psychology instead - which gives me a unique perspective on how characters think and act. When betaing, I do try to give a "compliment sandwich", which means that I will always try and find something nice to say about your work then what needs to be improved. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My main strength is probably original character generation and canon characterisation. I love to get inside of the character's head, figure out what makes them tick and keep true to their original personalities (If they are a canon character) Nothing angers me more than seeing FF.net authors butchering the original traits of a canon character. For Created characters, I am very critical about them for I have been down the Mary Sue road (As we all have) so I know exactly what to look for and how to help balance them out if need be. I can even help to offer quirks and flaws to give them if you are having trouble trying to find something for them. My spelling and grammar is fairly decent. I also can spice up original storylines with interesting little twists and tweaks. "The Wayward Soldier" and "Gears of War 2: Crimson Cross" and "Fallout 3: The Good man" have been praised for twists in the storyline that people have enjoyed. Didn't like something about the game/anime? Change it then. Wanted to add some extra dialogue here? Why not? |

If I work on a piece of work for too long, I get to the point where I start to miss out mistakes and of course, miss out words which can be kind of confusing to the reader. I tend nit-pick over things like long winded descriptions of character's clothing if it is not essential to the pointline (No one needs to know about the slutty, unprotective outfit your Gears OC is wearing) |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Catagory wise? I would prefer Gears of War, Fallout 3, New Vegas and Saints Row. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will not -and I stress this- will not beta-read anything Twilight, High School Musical or Kingdom Hearts related. I'll do smut if it has substance. I cannot do poetry. I hated it in school and still hate it now. |
