Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader the first thing I do is actually read the story to see how well it flows and how much sense it makes to the reader. If it looks choppy I make suggestions that I feel can improve a story so that the reader is less distracted and is able to concentrate on reading, not deciphering. This means that I also look at grammar. Because we are writing stories "correct" grammar usage is not as stringent here as it is for a paper but twenty commas in one sentence drives me up the wall. Big time. I give compliments when I believe people deserve them and I also give criticism when it is warranted. We are writers, we should always seek ways to improve our writing styles. I'm twenty-one years old and I expect to deal with people who are mature enough to make my advice as that. Advice. No when can tell you how or what to write they can only make suggestions that can lead to improvement. You have every right to disagree in a professional manner. Whining should be left for children who are unable to handle honest opinions. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Drama is what I'm good at writing. Not only do I write fanfiction but I do have a published book of my own that I've written that deals with fantasy. That is my strong point. One of my strongest points is being able to come up with original story lines. So far I've manged to keep my stories different from other peoples. Well, before mine were published anyway. I've heard rumor that some of mine were nearly copied. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Love scenes are one of my major weak points. By nature I'm not very affectionate in a romantic sense in public so it's harder for me to write things of that nature when I know there are going to be lots of people who know me reading it. Fight scenes are another one of my weaknesses but that is due more to my interest in focusing on how the characters are evolving than grand epic fight scenes. Unless I'm watching a movie. I'm down for the action flick! |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer to beta anime stories mostly. I don't watch hardly any regular tv except for the news but I like all genres of stories. Also, if I don't know anything about the anime that needs to be beta-read I don't mind doing research to be more helpful. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I don't like stories that are put into script format. To me, those are things meant to be read out loud and with multiple people like a play. Also I don't like low-comedy things like Dumb and Dumber. Love Family Guy and the Simpsons but I cannot watch or read things like Dude, where's my car or Clerks. |
