Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
My name is Alice (or Catalyst Roses, whichever you are more comfortable with).
I don't beta-read often, but when I do, I love it. I'm very good with grammar, sentence structure, keeping tenses, etc.
I think browsing my list of stories (60+) will give you a better idea of who I am than anything I could write here. I write and read slash and gen, but I have no qualms betaing any other preference, such as het. It doesn't matter what it is, to be honest. As long as it's legible, I'll gladly take it on.
If I beta-read for you, it will likely be done through a series of e-mails, since that, to me, is most convenient. My beta-reading style consists of carefully picking through each sentence, and eyeing sentence structure, grammar, tense consistency, and anything else that needs to be checked.
I will change what I believe needs to be changed, bold those changes so you can see them, and then following the change explain why I changed it. If you don't like the changes I made, I won't argue. After all, it's your story, right?
That's about the gist of it. I hope I can be someone you can trust. ♥ |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Anything involving grammar and the like I will tackle. I'm particulary picky about tenses, so if that's your weakness, I think I'd be a smart choice as a beta.
As for writing, I excel at anything slashy and present tense writing, as well as one-shots. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have trouble, to be honest, writing in past tense. I've been writing in present tense for so long at this point that's it hard to change my ways. The same thing goes with one-shots; it's very hard for me to change my ways.
As a beta, however, I can't really think of any weaknesses to name. Well, one.
I'm a bit of a procrastinator, so if your fic is more than a few thousand words long, if might take me that much longer to get it back to you. However, I fully encourage you to e-mail me/PM me/IM me if I'm taking too long and ask what the hold-up is. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer, to be honest, slash or gen, although I can handle het, as long as it's not explicit. That's about it, as far as preferences go. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
The only things I would really protest beta-ing would be things like massive crossovers (a two-fandom crossover, however, I have no problem with) or explicit het.
Nominally, however, my list includes fics that binge on the taboos: explicit murder, explicit rape, the two combined, or anything of the sort is Not My Cup of Tea. |
