Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a stickler for grammar. Know that. I'll be forgiving in some cases, but if you're looking for someone to graze over your story and just sorta say, "Yeah, it's cool," then you'd have better luck talking to... I dunno, a mob boss or something. Someone who doesn't care about writing, at any rate.
On paper, I'm a nasty, evil, no-holds-barred reviewer. If I see something that's resulted because of some person's idiotic desire to just fulfill their own fantasies (fangirls, I'm lookin' straight at you through a sniper scope), I'll be more than willing to shower it with a bit of charbroiled criticism.
Not that I'm not human, of course. I'll try to be nice, if you ask. Heck, you could also just walk in and slap me in the face with a story and say, "Read," and I'd be willing. Just so long as you, y'know, get my attention or something. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
On the betareader profile form, it says that "honesty is not boasting. Name areas of betareading/writing you excel at."
To be perfectly honest, I don't have any idea what it is I'm supposed to excel at. I just sorta call things a I see 'em. If that's a good thing to you, then it's a good thing. If not, then it's not. Simple as that, I s'pose.
One thing I'll say is that I'm a stickler to grammar, as I'm sure you've already read. My own grammar isn't flawless, but I'd like to think that it's at least worth something. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Like the fabled 18-1 New England Patriots of the 2007-08 NFL season, my one flaw is that I apparently cannot finish. Anything.
That has more to do with writing than with proofreading, but hey, it's something you might want to know.
And for what it's worth, I prefer "proofreader" over "betareader." If that's a sin by your book, then I'm a sinner. But hey, at least it's an actual word. Zing! |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Since this is fanfiction, it's obvious that I'd prefer fanfics of which I know the source. Give me an X-Men fanfic and I might be able to understand what it is. Give me a... Wizard of Oz story and I'd laugh before promptly lighting myself on fire. You can get a general sense of what stories I like best if you look at the stories I write, but I understand that it paints a very vague picture of what I enjoy. If you're not sure, and you still want me to look it over, send me a PM or something and I can tell you. (Of course, I can still handle anything if all you'd like is a quick grammar fix.)
As far as genres go, I s'pose I'll be more or less accepting of anything. Stories with homosexuality in them (in which the homosexuality is NOT part of that particular source's canon) aren't something I'm particularly fond of, but I'll be willing to read 'em. Just don't be surprised if you see me quite blatantly torching you about characterization or something. I've only read one good portrayal of a possible homosexual relationship, and the thing hasn't been updated since... 2003 or so.
But I digress. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
It's all fair game for now. Just wait a couple stories or so, though, and you'll see this space fill up pretty quickly. |
