Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've done beta-reading on various boards for several years now, starting with fanfiction written by a friend of mine, up to offering beta services to the members of the Pokemon Fan Fiction forum of Pokecommunity. My specialties are grammar/spelling as well as plot analysis (though I'm decent with characterization as well), and I'm known for a harsh and straightforward style laced with suggestions or blunt explanations for why certain parts DON'T work. (I expect the author to figure a lot of the comments on plot points out themselves or at least work with me in conversation to improve their work.) |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
After studying the language intensely since high school, I'm able to point out problems in language -- even the smaller details that are difficult to master (such as the semicolon and homophones like their/they're/there). I can also step back and look at the story with a critical eye to spot the weak points that the author may have missed himself (weak points that may, if left untouched, leave the narration weak or confusing). Additionally, I'm very capable of delivering both with as little sugar-coating as possible. What you get from me will be as close to the honest opinion of an average reader as you'll probably get. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
While I can spot the little details, I occasionally will fail to cover in detail the larger picture, such as overall plot or long-term characterization. Additionally, my explanations may come off as confusing (as I sometimes struggle to explain concepts that I just find to be NATURAL), so you may need to ask about various parts of my commentary. |
