Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love to read; however, it annoys me I see stories written with no grammar, no length, and absolutely no thought put into it. I will happily read your story and give you constructive criticism, but please make sure you have put some time and effort into it.
Also I would only like veteran authors. If this is your first story move on. I'm sorry, but I'm not interested. I've taken on to many first time authors to the point where I feel more like a teacher than a beta. Sorry but I'm not here to teach you how to write, I'm here to help you. And for a lot of first time writers you haven't gained enough experience that you will learn on your own. Things you won't learn from me or anyone else, but skills you will learn just by reading and writing.
And if I don't answer you message don't get fucking mad at me. Sorry, bad language, bad experience. If you don't hear from me, sorry but I passed on your story. Didn't mean I passed on you. I take a look at all posted stories of people who ask for me to be a beta. It's off of those whether or not I want to put forth my time. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I love to make sure things flow nicely. If you become to repetitive or things just don't make sense, I'll be sure to tell you. I also like to focus on characterization and plot. I'm honest. Sometimes, I like to sugar coat things, but I'm not afraid to be brutal. I tend to be specific and tell how it is. I may come off as a bit forward, but just remember these are suggestions. You don't have to follow every piece of advice I give you. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't care much for grammar. Send it through a spell check before you send the story to me. If you don't I have no qualms in dropping you in a hot second. If you can't take the time to spell check your story, I won't take the time to beta it. Other than that, hard to believe, grammar isn't that big of a deal in a story. Grammar can be fixed easily, a sucky plot can't. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Call me a typical chick, but I love comedy romances. Also, those angsty stories that just make your heart wrench. If I feel that particular tug on my heart, you're probably doing an excellent job. And sex. Sex is always good ;) |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I find I skip over stories with no relations in it. I can tolerate those long talks between two police officers, only if I know my two favorite characters are going to hook up in the end. |
