Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a fan of Microsoft Word's Track Changes function. I print off fic, edit it in pen and then type everything up, so it would be best if you had Microsoft Word -- it's really simple to figure out the function once you see it in use. Send your fic to me at kanthia at rogers dot com and I'll have it back to you in a day per page, give or take (depends on how lazy I'm being).
I'm new to beta but not to editing. I'm an editor for my university's newspaper and people seem to have a thing for dumping their essays on me. I'm looking to spread myself out a little, if you know what I mean. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm a left-brainer when it comes to editing. I'm good at the technical aspects of writing, such as construction, looking for repetition, grammar, flagrant or non-use of the lovely little semicolon; I read out loud when I edit, so I'm good at looking for flow and readability issues, as well as understandability of the plot. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
If you write it well enough, I'll be hard-pressed to find criticism for your characterization (unless it conflicts with a plot event). I'm not the best at getting through a long fic and my schedule (read: student life) will sometimes get in the way of reading. I'm still learning to walk that fine line between putting down and sucking up. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Fic set in the original universe, though AU can be interesting. I'm a fan of one-shots over multi-chapter fanfic. Still, I like to broaden my horizons so right now I'll look at pretty much anything. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I get a little bit squicked over PWP porny things, so none of that please and thanks. |
