Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am mostly a person who abhors poor writing and countless grammarical errors. As such if I receive a request by an author whose writing skills are less than those of a grade-schooler, I may reject the offer until that author has improved their skills. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
Usually when I beta a chapter, I mark down the changes I've made in BOLD font (whether it is a single word or an entire page). I have a tendency to be very tenacious in my writing and to iron out all possible wrinkles in the fabric of the plotline. Thus I will not hesitate to question the author if certain actions within the chapter that the characters make clash with the personalities that the author has given them. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
However, one thing that I am very good at is thinking up new ideas and scenarios for the author to use or consider. In general, my ideas to several of my friends have led to very humorous situations, even changing the general flow of the storyline for a short period of time. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My biggest weakness as an author and as a person in general is if I lose interest in my work, I tend to slack off terribly. This could be caused by any number of issues. The most common would be my assuming that the author would notice the more outstanding mistakes in their writing that I too spotted but was too lazy to correct: i.e. defiantly for definitely, anywho for anyhow, etc.
If by some chance I start to slip into this mind frame, don't be afraid to yell at me and remind me of what my priorities are. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to beta-read the genres that I am familiar with. This includes but not limited to: Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho, Harry Potter, Evagelion, Star Wars, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Scryed.
I am best at writing action, adventure, and a little bit of drama. I guess I'm also pretty good at mystery and romance as well. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I refuse, point-blank, to review any story that is
1) poorly written or thought out (no plot)
2) I'm not familiar with the genre
3) yaoi of ANY KIND
4) the author DEMANDS that I accept. |
