Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
With any given story I beta I go through a series of self-requirements, the first being a quick read through to spot any glaringly obvious mistakes, spelling, grammar, e.t.c. A more throrough look through will (hopefully) ensure that when you submit the story to this site, or to any other, you won't go back for that 'first published glow' and find something that'll have you cringing over your keyboard. n.n;;
I warn you, I will suggest alternate ways for a story to go if I feel the flow is being compromised by too much conversation, or sentences that make no sense. Please, don't be offended! I got anal about stuff like that during my great binge of 2001, in which I read about 3000 books and bored friends and family senseless with whinging which rivaled anything that I can do today. I won't be pushy about it, I won't refuse to work on your story if you disagree, I'm just stating that, in one story or another, I might send the author an e-mail asking 'wtf puh-lease 'splain, eh?'. I figure these things happen. And I'll be nice about it, too. This also includes the dreaded 'past and present' tense that I, my self, seem to have a lot of trouble with while writing, but seem to find it like nothing else when I'm not. >.>
I'm also not very picky about the subject matter, series, genre, what ever else floats your fiction boat. I work best with series I know (Names can be such a prickly little thing....) but I'm willing to take on work outside the fandoms I currently worship, so that's no problem at all. My one limit, if I can call it such, is that I don't accept any work portraying children in sexual or violent situations, m-preg, cross dressing or stories with plots lifted directly from other media, be it television or books. I accept yaoi, yuri and het, and I'm not shy about any lemons or limes you might want looked over.
I send authors works back in one e-mail, the file attached in a rich text format, with the original version above and the prooread version below. Any parts that I feel need to be looked over will be bracketed like [[[this]]][01], with footnotes at the bottom explaining why I chose to highlight that particular area. If you're not comfortable with this format, or have suggestions for one you would be comfortably using with me, I'm always open to suggestions!
Well, that's about it. I offer a general proofreading that will bring your story up to spec, and my hours aren't that flexible, but once I accept a story I try my hardest to see it through to the end. And be assured! I go through other stories much better than I do my own! (There's something to be said about rose tinted glasses....). Any one-shot I accept will take at least one week to go over thoroughly, with a two week maximun that I WILL finish inside. Longer stories, being what they are, may take several depending on the material and the level you would like me to work to. I DO work, I DO have a family, and while I love fanfiction to bits, and love helping writers, know that this may affect how long it can be before your writing is returned to you finished.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Look, I spell like nobody else I know, and I do it very, very well. I know thousands of obscure words, and what I don't know? I'll look it up within a day. Champion at scrabble, that sorta thing. And, if you can't find the correct romanji for japanese, or latin words that have you scratching at your head, I'll do my best to scour books and the internet for you.
I like to think I know how a story 'flows'. I've written in about 7 different POV's, including on one memorable occasion the thoughts of a potted fern, and I can usually understand what kind of drama you're trying to set up in any particular instance. Apart from that, I have a good grasp of grammar, a decent grasp of many different kinds of finishing requirements, and I always finish any proof-reading I start. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My own writing can be quite terrible at time. I can fix anything I find, but somehow, either from me typing too fast or not having the faintest grasp of reality when I'm sitting at my keyboard at the time, you may find words in my footnotes like 'swripsly' and 'ih my god, wjat?'. It happens. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to take works on of a yaoi nature, that reside within the Harry Potter, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gundam Wing, Final Fantasy series and many other anime fandoms. However, as stated in my bio, I'm willing to take on most anything, as long as you give me a little time to read up on the series. |

These are my own views, and I hope you respect that. I don't have a problem with cross-dressing, I happen to like dressing as my male alter ego all the time, but most of the stories I find with the subject matter leave me feeling very empty inside at the abuse the characters have suffered.
