Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
My Category list is incomplete. Please bear with me.

I enjoy beta-reading, but I can be harsh.

My most basic expectations:
1. You want and are willing to improve.
2. You will accept sometimes harsh (but always constructive) criticism.
3. You will be patient if I cannot beta within 2-3 days.

Your most basic expectations should be:
1. Improvement.
2. Sometimes harsh (but always constructive) criticism.
3. Thorough beta-ing by the beta.

My more thorough expectations:
1. I can't stand people with no sense of proper English. MAKE AN EFFORT TO USE SPELLCHECK.
2. I don't like non-canon characterizations (unless they're for the sake of parody, but I've only found 3 fanfictions that I've ever liked written this way).
3. I don't like non-canon pairings unless you can somehow convince me that the relationship is viable and prove it in your fanfiction.
4. Rarely do I ever accept self-inserts. RARELY.
5. I don't like people who beg readers to be nice with their reviews. It shows that those authors are pathetic. (I don't care if it's your first fanfiction. If you don't think people will respond positively toward your work, then don't bother publishing it.)
6. I don't like people who think their work belongs to the Fanfiction-ka Hall of Fame. It just shows how conceited they are.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Not in any particular order:
1. Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and other conventions
2. Vocabulary
3. Plot and character development
4. Time progression/time-jumping
5. Angst
6. Mary Sue/Gary Stu purification, detoxification, and elimination
7. OC development and purification
8. Chapter-naming
9. Characterization
10. Description
11. AU (alternate universe) selection, development, and appropriate usage
12. Spatial balance (too busy/too slow/too much flavor/bland)
13. Denouement (falling action/wrap-up of story)
14. Honesty

The rest will come to me.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Not in any particular order:
1. Reliability (Sometimes I just can't make deadlines. But that happens even to the best of us. See #2.)
2. Response. (Sometimes I can't do any beta-ing for 2-3 days. If that's the case, please be patient.)

The rest will come to me.
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Not really. But if I turn you down, it could be because I don't know the context of the story. I only know the following:
One Piece, Bleach, Skip Beat!, Full Moon, Lost, Heroes, Stargate series, Pokemon, Digimon, Rurouni Kenshin, Reba, What I Like About You, CSI series, Numb3rs, Ghost Whisperer, The Mediator and some other Meg Cabot series, Brian Jacques' books, Harry Potter, InuYasha, most of Osamu Tezuka's work, Dragon Ball and DBZ, Red River, Aishiteiruze Baby, Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne, GTO, Paradise Kiss, Ultra Maniac, Marmalade Boy, Hana-Kimi manga and JDramas, Death Note, Yoshihiro Togashi's works, W Juliet, From Far Away, la Corda d'Oro, Yu-Gi-Oh! series, Shaman King, Vampire Knight, Hikaru no Go, Yuu Watase's series, Dream Saga, Saint Tail, Tokyo Mew Mew, Moon Child, Versus, Musashi #9, Gentleman's Alliance, Les Miserables, Fruits Basket, Eyeshield 21, Ouran High School Host Club, Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigations, Someday's Dreamers series, Tail of the Moon, Beauty Pop, Claymore, CLAMP's works, Meitantei (Detective) Conan, The Kindaichi Case Files, Rumiko Takahashi's works, Azumanga Daioh, Miyazaki's works, Cowboy Bebop, DNAngel, Demon Diary, Escaflowne, Evangelion, Gintama, Grave of the Fireflies, Seven Samurai, Hot Gimmick, Medabots, Mink, Petshop of Horrors, Please Save My Earth, Prince of Tennis, Whistle!, Romeo x Juliet, Utena, Zodiac PI, Zombie Powder, Agatha Christie's Great Detectives Poirot and Marple, etc. (I can't remember the rest right now...)

But I can't make any promises. I may know these, but that doesn't mean I necessarily will be willing to beta fanfictions of them.
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Not in any particular order:
1. Yaoi/slash/yuri (shounen-ai/shoujo-ai are usually okay, but see Beta Profile/Bio thorough expectation #3.)
2. Mary Sues/Gary Stus (unless you're trying to get rid of them)
3. Naruto. It just doesn't interest me, sorry.
4. Ranma 1/2. I lost interest.
5. Saint Seiya. Blahhhhh.
6. Sailor Moon. Don't care.
7. Sonic. Don't care.
8. Gundam. I'm clueless. Sorry.
9. BLATANTLY OFF-CHARACTER STORIES THAT MAKE WRITERS LIKE ME WANT TO PUKE.
10. CHAT-TYPING.
11. Self-inserts. 98% of the time, you're only embarrassing yourself.

The rest will come to me.
