Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a writer of novels, comic books, and screenplays, and have performed editing duties for more of the same. I have a strong backing in both English literature and composition. I am able to, within one week of receiving a manuscript of up to 10,000 words, read through it two times, the first looking for problems involving grammar and spelling, the second looking for major or problematic inconsistencies within the story itself. Manuscripts involving more than 10,000 words will require two to three weeks for the same review. The manuscript will be returned with the original words intact, and with my notes and suggestions highlighted at the end of each paragraph. If this is acceptable to you, I look forward to reading what you have to offer. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have strong English composition skills, making me sensitive to matters of grammar and spelling. I also possess a narrative mind, allowing me to spot inconsistencies within a story and take steps to correct them. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I tend to focus on minute aspects of a story at times, though I take measures to ensure that my reading schedule is not significantly bogged down by minutiae. I also do not have nearly the time I would like to go through all the stories I may wish to, so there may be occasions when I am late in returning a manuscript to the author, though I will always send a message explaining why and have the proofread manuscript to the author within three days of the target deadline. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Generally, I like to read stories that are full of humor or action, and occasionally even romance. However, I will accept any story which captures my interest, so please feel free to submit your story. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Stories full of angst and drama have their place, but with few exceptions, that place is not in my "In Box." If you feel your story is compelling and true to the work on which it is based, you may submit it, but I offer no guarantees that it will be read. |
