Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
They seem awfully pretentious here, but I'll throw in a few words, I suppose.
Me? I've never actually beta'd anything for real, but I tend to catch mistakes with grammar and spelling as I go through fics on here. My style? I'm not sure I really understand what they're getting at, but mostly I'm making this profile to just plain help out.
I have time on my hands on a daily basis. Why not?
Expectations of people who might ask me to beta... Be accepting of corrections. If you're looking for someone to beta your writing, you've got to be willing to listen to them. On the other hand, don't be afraid to tell them they're wrong if you're positive they are, but don't argue about it pointlessly. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am technically my own beta. I have been since I started writing. While I've never officially beta'd for anyone, I've also never had a beta, except the rare occasion that I've gotten a friend to just glance over something I've written. If you honestly want to know my strengths, just read what I've written. It's the best way, I think.
I've read fanfictions that have been beta'd and found mistakes still lingering, so maybe a particular strength is that I am rather observant?
All I suppose I can say is that I am fluent in English and have graduated high school without getting reprimanded for bad grades in any of my English classes. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Weaknesses? Maybe that I haven't done this before now?
Everyone makes mistakes, and nobody's perfect. I'm no exception. The best way to figure out my weaknesses is to just give it a shot. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm not too terribly picky about what types of stories I'll beta for. Honestly, I'd get a kick out of beta'ing only for stories of a particular pairing or something, but I'm pretty open.
One thing I will say, however, is that it's probably best if I only beta stories written for the Naruto fandom at this point in time. I can't exactly give tips on characterization without a proper knowledge of the series, and right now, Naruto is my top fandom. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
There isn't much I'm not particularly fond of, but let's name a few here.
First, I'd only be good for characterization in stories written for a series I know. There's a few to list, so I won't put them here, but safe to say if I haven't written for it, it's probably not something I can judge characterization for.
Crack. To an extent, it's okay, but I think I really got my fill of OOC spontaneity when I was in middle school.
Mpreg. It's not so bad in some cases, but most cases it's just not good. I'd prefer to steer clear of it. |
