Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a three-time Spelling Bee champ, so I have that going on. I'm definitely not a grammar nazi, but I have an ear for proper grammar while respecting the author's own writing style. I'm also sensitive to characterization, but I'm flexible with OOC-ness.br /br /

My style is to go through the story first for the spelling and grammar errors. I will change them within the file itself, but put them in red so you can see the corrections and perhaps learn from them. Or disregard if you don't like how it fits in the flow. Once I have read it a few more times, looking for plot holes and characterization errors, I will write up a separate "report" and send it back along with the corrected story so you can make the necessary changes. And, of course, questions or concerns are always more than welcome. I love helping my fellow writers with their craft. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm just as good, if not better than spelling/grammar check, but I also understand the use of different writing styles from author to author. I have a good ear for correct characterization and story flow, and I'm infinitely patient when it comes to questions. Writing is one of my passions, my life, and I take great pride in helping others while simultaneously working to improve my own work. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
At times I can be a bit too lenient on a writer. I'm trying to be more honest while being polite with my critique. I also get overwhelmed by life sometimes. I have a full time job, help my cousin with her two kids, and have two parents that have been seriously ill in the past and have a tendency to have things happen to them that medicine can't explain. Seriously, if I had a dollar for everytime a doctor said "that's not supposed to happen" I'd be rich. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm open to all stories and all kinds. I'm 22, so I can beta even the most mature of stories. Het, slash, threesome, WTF?, PWP, crackfic, bring it all on. |
