Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader I am quite thorough. I try to go through things with a fine tooth comb. I prefer authors to send me files so that I can read it through and make suggestions for improvement. I automatically correct spelling mistakes but any suggestions I make are for the author to decide whether they want to follow them. I do expect good communication between the author and I so that I can ask them questions and get honest replies to make the process quick and easy. I try to keep the writing style of the author so that it is still their own work. Normally I will put bullet points at the end of each chapter containing what I think could be improved, any mistakes in grammar that are made consistently by the author and any other general suggestions. If the author decides they wish to ammend their chapter on my recommendations I am more than happy to re-read the chapter. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My strengths are that I am good at improving sentence structure and I can see parts of a story that could be modified to make the plot flow smoother. I am good with spelling and can spot inconsistancies. I am excellent at plot development whether I am writing or just bouncing ideas of. I'm also pretty good with character development and improving characters so that they don't seem like Mary Sue's. |

Not the greatest of people with romance but I am willing to give it a try. I can't say much about my beta skills for shows/books that I haven't seen or read but I can still help with grammar etc. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to beta stories about shows/books that I have read so that way I have some idea of the backround. However if it is a fandom that I have not encountered, I will do research so that I can help the author the best I can. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will beta anything that anyone sends me including yaoi, yuri etc. I have not come across a story as of yet that I will not beta. |
