Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Basically, when I beta a chapter, I read it over slowly, checking for spelling and grammatical errors. I will also make suggestions that I believe will make the story flow more easily, to better hold the attention of the readers. All I expect from readers is that they do not get upset at any changes I make, that they understand I am only trying to help. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I definitely excell at spelling, for the most part, and any I do not catch will be caught by the spell check I have on my computer. I am also above average grammar-wise. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Weaknesses? Well, for one, if you want general impressions or an in-depth analysis of your writing, sorry, I'm generally too focused on the other aspects of betaing to do that. If you ask me for my opinion or view on a particular portion, I can do that, but that's about all. Also, unless you ask, I probably won't think to offer suggestions to improve descriptions of people or places. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I can't really say that there is any kind of story I would prefer over another, for the most part. Even if it's a romance where I do not agree with the pairing, I'll do it. I do not force my opinions on others, though if you want, I can discuss them with you. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
The exception to the above statement? I would not be able to make myself edit any explicit sexual content (though implications are just fine), and if there's an overflow of profanity (one word per paragraph or worse), forget about it. I won't read it. Also, I would be highly uncomfortable editing any obvious slash/femslash content, though as I said with my first statement, implied is OK. |
