Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta reader, I am not kind. I will nitpick on the smallest detail and I will not rewrite the story for you. I expect that you will have at least run spell and grammar check at least once before sending me your pages, and if anything is spelled in a weird way or the grammar is off and it's part of the character, please explain that so I don't change things. Any changes that I suggest will be put in parentheses next to the error and I do expect the changes to be made. I have a large chunk of an English degree, put on hold due to a sudden case of motherhood, so I do actually know what I'm talking about. I will not even consider anyone who writes in chatspeak or "L337", because that's not a style, it's a travesty. "Mary Sue" doesn't bother me, but she bothers a lot of other people. If I tell you your Original Character is a Mary Sue/Gary Stu, we'll discuss ways to fix it. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
If I don't know how to spell it off the top of my head, I have websites bookmarked that do. However, I generally don't need them. I have been told that I write some of the best action scenes that people have ever read and that I am very good at keeping canon characters in character. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I would say that my biggest weakness as a writer is that I tend to fall into the passive voice. This isn't always a bad thing, because most people speak in the passive voice, but it can be a problem if overused. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would prefer to beta stories that are not overly angsty, "random" or silly. Other than that, anything goes! |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will not beta read any Logan/Rogue pairings or slash that involves Logan in any way. Logan is possibly the straightest straight man in the Marvelverse and the thought of him sleeping with another man is beyond wrong. The same goes for the Logan/Rogue ("Rogan") pairing. I can't imagine he would ever look at a girl that he considers a daughter as a love interest no matter how much time has passed. Logan/Rogue FRIENDSHIP is fine. |
