Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm in college to be an engineer and probably write like one. I'm really just looking for more stories to read so I can get better, and I'll share everything I've already learned with you whether you agree with my style or not. If you don't that's fine. If you're comfortable with it, I have a bunch of writer friends who can throw in their thoughts as well. Your choice.
Also, I won't force you but I suggest that you don't deviate too much from the original story when it comes to your theme. It bugs me when people do an emotional story about One Piece or a light, fluffy story about Death Note. I put up a long list of different things that make good backdrops for a story, and I guarantee you can find one that fits what YOU want to write.
Finally, feel free to just ask me a question or get help with a small part of your story. Just because you get help from me doesn't mean you have to put every chapter past me for the rest of the story. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I know how to spell very well: basically I won't miss anything at all that's misspelled. I have a decent understanding of sentence structure and that kind of stuff, but my biggest strength is I understand what defines professional writing: build-up, climax, character development, etc. I can help you integrate your point into your universe, which is often harder than it sounds. I also understand plenty of engineering stuff if you want to inject some of that into your story. Finally, I have a very good understanding of some kinds of people. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Unfortunately, I don't understand many other kinds of people. I can tell you exactly what I or someone who thinks like me would do in any given situation, but there are some character types I just don't get. Working with me will make your story better overall, but there will be specific areas where I can't help. That's why I want to improve. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Personally I'm looking for authors who want to move forward: stories that include only the characters from the original are fine, but you should be planning on adding some OC's eventually. The point is to work toward your own personal story, and this is a great way to learn that.
As for mediums, I'm familiar with tons of manga and anime, as well as many cartoons. The quality of the story has nothing to do with what it's from. Keep in mind that I've only read the manga for many of the stories I listed, and there might be things in the anime they changed that I won't know about.
p.s. I'm pretty busy right now, but I want to find a partner or a group of partners and do a Golden Sun fanfic. If you want to do an adventure/magic fanfic with a prefabricated world, I think Golden Sun works even better than the Final Fantasy games. PM me if you're interested. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
The only thing I just won't do slash, ever. If you feel that two guys on any show should harbor secret romantic feelings for each other, I disagree with you. The same goes for anything sexual that you personally would not do. It is a fact of human history that stories depicting morals lower than those of society tend to gradually pull society down to their level. Besides, how is that better than a regular relationship? |
