Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello, I'm a pretty cheery person who likes to help out fellow authors. I would never say that I was perfect, but I like to believe that I have a critical eye for grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and plot flow. I'm currently enrolled in college (as well as some English classes, which is not the point but I guess it could maybe be a plus), so I'm academically busy and motivated. This is actually helpful for my Beta-Reading, as it means I'm usually productive and ambitious. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm really good with correct spelling, I think. Of course, this does not mean that I won't miss anything, but if someone writes, "Oh no, I can't loose you!!" then I will know they mean "lose" and not "loose". I have knowledge of some Japanese vocabulary, so I won't be confused if you're throwing in some word like "aibou" for YuGiOh and whatnot. I'm pretty good with grammar, although I'm not perfect. I may also be able to point out ways that things could have been said a bit differently to make the story more sensible or clear.
Humor and Fluff fics are pretty good ones for me. Generally everything except really dark stuff. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Well, in general in writing I'm pretty poor at conclusions to stories (I'm not clever enough, meh) and perhaps maybe lengthy poetic descriptions. I'm very: "Dialogue", action description, emotion description, "Dialogue". At least, usually. So, I might not be that helpful in those areas. I could still read and correct grammar and such though, yay me.
Er... it also might be relatively hard for me to read a pure angst or drama fic. Or an abuse fic. So keep that in mind. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I would like to read fandoms (and preferable pairings, but hey, I'm flexible) that I like. Fandoms apparently means, "stuff I've written on Fanfiction.net and listed here" and yeah. Pairings is... pairings. That one is obvious.

Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I might not be able to handle it if a lot of Japanese words are thrown in randomly. What I mean by this is, if someone is answering a question that was asked in English and the reply is "Hai" I may politely suggest that, for the sake of the story, you make that a "yes" or the equivalent to what you are trying to say. If the story degrades into lots of basic Japanese instead of English I may pitch a fit. I may know what they are saying, but it harms the flow of the story for me severely.
Er... No Mary-Sues and such please. And I don't particularly care for OCs either, unless they are well executed. |
