Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I enjoy editing/beta reading. I have been doing it for my friends for a long time, have been a beta for one fanfiction so far on this website, and am currently working on editing a script for a video game. I like almost every style and genre of writing, though I prefer not to read romance. I have a very 'open' style of betaing. By that I mean, if something needs to be re-worded, or a major change needs to be made, I give one or more suggestions, typically using the writer's own words, and let the writer decide for him or herself which one he or she likes. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am good with grammar and spelling, and at making sense of things no one else understands. I've been told I'm good with dialogue, and making it sound realistic. If a specific deadline is given, 99% of the time I am able to meet it (given it is a reasonable deadline) the rest of the time the work is finished within a day or two after the deadline. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't always pick up every spelling mistake. Though I try not to impose my own style on the piece, it sometimes just happens, which is why I usually give a few suggestions for changes, rather than making one definite change. And depending on schoolwork and other obligations, I don't always have time to beta, so if no deadline is given, I may take a long time to finish. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
My favourite genres are fantasy, sci-fi, humour, and adventure, but I'm open to just about anything. I'll beta for any show/book/movie/etc, but if it's critical that I've seen the show (ie, you want me to check for errors in writing the characters) then it's best to send me a message and make sure I've seen it. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I do not like slasher fics. Never have, never will, and I would rather not read them. Though I don't really like romance, I'm open to reading it, especially if the story also involves something else, like humour. I'm perfectly okay with a -little- bit of romance or some cute fluffyness. |
