Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've been a member of fan fiction.net since 01-27-05, and have been reading and writing fan fiction on-and-off for pretty much all of that time. I currently have fifteen stories on this site - although some are unfinished due to personal issues. Additionally, I feel I'm a beta reader who will cover a wide range of stories, as I have no issue with mature content, slash etc.
I currently beta for two ff.net authors at the moment, and have beta'ed for others in the past.
As well as being a fan fiction writer, I'm also doing a creative writing course to help improve my own skills.
As a stay-at-home mum, I have a lot of free time, so I should be able to get each new chapter back to you within a week at most.
I'll offer you a fair and honest opinion, in exchange for willingness to accept constructive criticism where necessary.
My beta'ing style is to change the colour/ highlight parts of the story I feel need changing, and leave comments through out in a different colour also. However, I am willing to work with a different method should you prefer. Additionally, I'm happy to discuss plot points/ ideas etc. through PM or email. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Giving fair and honest opinions of your work, spotting plot holes in the story. I have a good eye for detail, and I'm happy to point out when something is working well, or when something could be improved. Good grammar, spellings and characterization skills. For the three categories I write in, I feel I have a vast knowledge of the canon, and where I don't I'm more than willing to look up/ research things.
As I write mostly OC stories myself, I have a good idea of how to create a well developed and believable character, and avoid it becoming a Mary Sue.
I also think I'm good at covering stories with mature content/ sex scenes, as they're something I'm fond of writing myself.
Additionally, being British, I may be able to help with characterization etc. if you require it (i.e. for Harry Potter fan fics etc.) |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'll admit now, that spelling and grammar isn't my strongest point. However, I take extra care in areas I'm slightly weaker, by checking and double checking everything with spell check and a dictionary if need be. Additionally, as I'm British, I may have trouble with characterization from other countries, although I'm very familiar with 'Americanisms' due to writing wrestling stories. |

Anything within the three categories I currently write for, mostly focusing on romantic stories, although I am prepared to cover other genres.

Unfortunately, I won't beta anything I'm not familiar with the canon for, as that would be unfair to both of us. If you're unsure which categories I'll accept, please message me. Additionally, I won't beta stories containing excessive sexual abuse, incest or needless violence. |
