Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I have been writing on fanfic for four years and been reading even longer. I am still currently writing fics so I can't take on a lot of betaing. I am a college student which means I keep a very busy schedule. As a result, it might take me a week or so to get back to you. During finals times it might be a little longer.
I am a complete perfectionist and try to catch everything. When reviewing fics I note what could work better and where there are errors and leave them in reviews. I can be extremely nitpicky about details and like everything to follow a logical order. I hate fics that compress five chapters of information into a three page one chapter entry. If you are just throwing things together without much thought I can be extrmely critical. I try to give constructive criticism but can sometimes be sarcastic (I try very hard not be). If there is something that doesn't work for the fic I will tell you my opinion (such as this needs to be scratched oe rewritten) but the final decision is up to you.
Please take pride in what you write, if you don't take pride in it. I'm not the betaer for you. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am a perfectionist and try to catch everything. I'm pretty good about catching most spelling errors although I have some trouble with to and too. I like changing sentence structure so that it isn't monotonous and repeditive. I feel this is extremely important to the flow. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Being a college student limits my time. Therefore I might be somewhat slow at returning and also give smaller notations than I would give if I had more time. Also I've noticed that I need to up my vocabuary usage sincce sometimes I use the same words recurrently. I need to use the thesaurus more. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I perfer really logical/believable stories with a coherent plot and character development. I've written a few hurt/comfort and angst stories as well as action/adventure. I don't mind rommance as well as nontraditional couples as long as it is well done. I will also beta one-shots. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Nothing against Yaoi/Yuri/Shoenen-Ai/etc, it just isn't my cup of tea. I would rather not beta these kinds of couples. I am not a huge fan of crack or comedy. I feel that I write better with emotions and angst. I will not beta anything rated M or with sex scenes. I also do not like fics that center on OCs or OOCness with out a logical explanation. I get extremely annoyed when authors add themselves into their fics. Don't ask me to beta these. Please nothing with spoliers. |
