Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've been a beta/proofreader for nearly 15 years. Several of the authors I deal with have been with me for three or more years. I've always enjoyed teaching, and am happy to work with authors in any way they need; my one pet peeve is people who expect me to fix the same mistakes over and over and over again. To me, that shows a lack of dedication to writing. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I was trained by a grammar-nazi, and am well-versed in the use of 'red-pen'. I'm very good at adapting to the needs of my authors...if you want a sounding board, I'm usually available through AIM or MySpaceIM. If you want me to simply look over and correct things, I can do that too. I have always been very good at getting into the heads of the characters so I can help analyze what their likely reactions in dialogue would be. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can be over-generous in my usage of commas...not something that would detract from a story, but something to keep in mind. Also, if you need 24-hour turnaround, I'm probably not the person to ask. I'm working on 2 Master's degrees and work full-time...please cut me a little slack. You have my word of honor on a 5-day turnaround (unless I e-mail you and tell you I'm losing my mind). |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer fics in genres I'm at least somewhat familiar with. I have no problem with any particular pairing; even if I don't follow the 'ship, I consider myself versatile enough to beta it and make commentary if it seems OOC (unless that's what you're going for) |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
No anime. Otherwise, I'm game for any pairing...of humans. Not into the bestiality scene, if that's even allowed here. Otherwise, bring it on. |
