Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I like plot. Anyone who has a good plot, not instant romances (with the exception of one-shots), will be high on my list for someone I'm willing to beta. But, while I like plot, I hate spelling mistakes. No, I'm not insane enough to stop reading a store with few spelling mistakes, but I do expect a story to be slightly cleaned up before it's handed over to me. I'm a reader who will be around as long as you need me. I can be as harsh as you want me to be. Be warned: I'm extremely to the point with what I like and don't like in a story. I'm more than happy to read over your stories, but don't expect anything to be sugarcoated with love and happiness. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Characterizations are a great strength of mine. If your characters aren't in character, then I can easily make suggestions as to how to put them more in line. When I beta read, I tend to mix things up a lot. If I don't like exactly how a paragraph sounds, I change around paragraphs and suggest things that need to be added to make the story better. I'm also quite good at helping out with plot and helping you figure out exactly how to make things happen. I'm pretty good a grammar and catching awkward sentences. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Commas. I am absolutely horrible at comma placement. I'm mildly good at spelling, but don't expect me to catch every small thing. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I just want to say this outright: if you send me a story, make sure that it at least has a semi-decent/original plot or something that you want help with. If it's just just like every other story out there, I'll be much less likely to look at it. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
If you send me an OC, you better make sure she/he's good. If not, I'll end up ripping him/her apart until you've got a character with flaws, struggles, and all of that jazz.
When it comes to yaoi/yuri I have rules. I don't read female/female pieces. Sorry, it's just not my cup of joe. When it comes to yaoi, it had better not be useless stuff that completely undermines the characters. Also, no sex. I really don't want to know that aspect of their relationship. But, other than that, I'm fine. (I have a few problems with incest, but it all really depends on the series and the characters in it. Rape is also one of those dependable things, all with the basis of hte story. |
