Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I have done betareading for only a few stories in the past, but I don't consider myself unskilled. If you would like to know my writing style, feel free to read a bit from one of my stories. I don't use a beta reader myself really, except a friend that reads my stuff just 'cause I like to know what she thinks, but she isn't the type to criticize my work enough to be considered a real beta reader. My point is, any grammar, spelling, characterization, or plot/tone qualities of one of my stories is from me.

If you would like my help, please specify how involved you want me in reviewing your story. Do you just want a grammar proofread, or do you want help with characterization, tone, or plot development?

I tend to focus most on grammar and spelling in prose.

I may be able to improve your story, but keep in mind any beta reader isn't going to be able to turn a poor fic into a winner. There has to be something there to improve on. If you want to know what I can do for a story specifically, feel free to send me a bit of it along with a summary and I'll be happy to reply with more detail on what I can do to help.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I consider myself to have excellent spelling and grammar. I am a careful reader and writer.

I'm obsessively interested in Doctor Who's new series (2005+), especially Tennant's involvement.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm American, so most spelling/phrases unique to the British language don't come naturally to me. I've absorbed a lot from Doctor Who shows/fics, and I implement what I know into my Who fics (even spelling).

I'm not a teacher or English major. I am a slow reader and writer. History isn't my strongest subject, so I wouldn't be able to advise on the flavor of a historical piece.

I currently have hardly any knowledge of Classic Doctor Who, but of what I do know, I will suggest if it comes up.
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Tenth Doctor, but Ninth Doctor works, too. I prefer canon pairings, if any. As my fics indicate, my favorite pairing is Tenth Doctor/Rose, but it's not necessary.

I prefer stories that fit into canon, even tag fics (heck, I've written one). That doesn't mean I won't take AU fics, though. Some of my favorite Who fics are seriously long and AU. An AU story has to originally fork from a spot on the canon timeline.
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
No Mary-Sues, just because I don't think I could get through them. No poetry or songfics because I wouldn't know what to do with them.

Slash in general isn't my thing. If your story contains it, it must stay in character with Doctor Who. For example, in something non-consensual, a victim established to be straight isn't suddenly going to change his inclinations.

No PWP please. Plots with M-rated sexual content are fine, but main characters need to express the same morality evident in their canon characters or an obvious attempt at it needs to be present. If not, I'd prefer not to read it. If in doubt, please mail me for further details customized to your story.
