Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
First and foremost I’m a writer, so I know all those problems that we’re faced with; writer’s block, spelling disabilities, finger cramps, that bump on your middle finger from holding a pen too much/too hard. Everything. So yeah, no worries, haha. What else? I’m going off to college next fall and do intend to major in English and will probably go into the editing business in four years time. In short I’m getting a jump start and would love to help anyone out. i know sometimes i dont post my own stories for sometime but that doesnt mean much--i can easily print out your stuff and carry it with me and take a pen to it when i have a free chance, so dont let that worry you. drop me a line sometime |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I’m a strong believer that every writer needs to find their own voice and their own writing style. That without that, even with pristine punctuation and impeccable spelling abilities, there will always be want of something more. I abuse adjectives and the comma but only because, together, description and ebb and flow make reading a story such a joy.
And that’s just general writing things. Then you can get all into characterization and making sure the people are in tune with their surroundings and are acting correctly, and I don’t know, I think that’s where most of the fun is. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
In truth, I’m a horrible speller. But that’s why we have spell check on word. Haha. But really, I’ve got grammar down pat as long as you don’t ask me to pick a sentence apart, quizzing me on which is the direct object, the indirect object, ect, ect, ect. I always hated that. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I guess I prefer stuff parallel to what I write, which is normally the day to day life of young adults. I mean, I can’t wrong long eccentric, adventurous plots with thousands of twists and turns, but no doubt I can keep up with reading them. That’s really not a problem. And normally I like to deal with the secondary characters of HP only because JK left us so much more room to flesh them out on our own. But I’ll help out with primary characters and such, spotting an OOC isn’t so tricky. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I’d rather no to have smut sent my way. And not to be unsupportive but no slash either. And no random, inappropriate pairings please. Seriously, I read a MadEye/Alicia piece…dear god, never again. |
