Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I cannot stress this enough, but I DO NOT accept beta requests from an author's friend, relative, or fan. I will only talk to the author him/herself. No sales pitches, please.br /
br /
I like to encourage writers more than bash their stories, but I will pick it apart if need be. There are times that I can be blunt and cruel, but I always say at least one or two things that are positive about the chapter or chapters.br /
br /
I have gotten picky over the years and ask that only writers with a good idea of grammar and story telling should contact me. I don't have time to fix every little grammar mistake in a draft so please double and triple check before sending it my way and I'd appreciate some kind of contact from the writer. Let me know what you want me to beta and when you want it done. br /
br /
Whomever you are, I'll try to help you out as best as I can. The one thing I do ask is that you have a pretty good base with grammar and the English language. My time is limited nowadays, but I would like to help out as much as I can.br /
br /
Also I'd like to add that if you don't have anyone that you can bounce ideas off of, I encourage you to find one. Even though you know the whole outline of your story and every detail, sharing them with a friend or family member (maybe even a betareader) is the best way to mix other perspectives into your story. That way it stays pretty well-rounded. If anything, your "partner in crime" will be able to point out some things that you missed so that you can correct them before posting the chapter. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My definite high point is grammar, but that area is hard to help on with the set-up as it is. If you have any questions, feel free to message me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Keep in mind though that I have my own stories to write as well as the other things going on in my life, but I'll try my best. That I can promise you.br /
br /
I've gotten pretty good with plots and characterization over the years so I'll help you in that area too. br /
br /
I've taken writing classes in collage and Creative Writing is my major (Professional, Technical Writing my minor), but don't let that scare you away. I'm just saying that I've had some experience. :) |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As I mentioned above, I'm not a real harsh reviewer, although, I can be very picky. I like to boost confidence and single out the good things instead of dwelling on the bad parts, but I also know that by pointing out the weak links makes you a better writer so I don't pass it off entirely. If you're looking for someone to look at your writing like some literary critic, then I'm probably not your gal. There may be some areas that I will pick apart, but usually I'm not merciless. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I have a wide range of interests, but mostly Anime and certain authors. If you want the whole detailed list just look in the "Favorites" area on my profile. I put some of my main ones up specifically, but those aren't all of them of course.br /
br /
I'm not picky with whether it's yaoi, yuri or hentai, but I've only just gotten into the yaoi thing and am still adjusting. If you want a hardcore betareader in that category than I'm probably not the one you're looking for. br /
br /
I just love stories with original characters. I myself write most if not all my stories that way and feel that there aren't enough of them out there. Don't read this and think that not using original characters will turn me away because it won't. br /
br /
I absolutely love crossovers so by all means send them my way!br /
br /
I guess all in all, I'm not picky. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I mentioned in my bio I would appreciate authors who have had some grasp with grammar and the English language, and I am going to start sticking by that from now on. I have gotten Beta requests in the past where the authors are not serious and merely use Betas for other people to rewrite their stories. I cannot stress enough that the story is YOURS and you should want to change it, not give it to someone else who has had more experience with sentence structure and the like. If I rewrite a part, it is only a suggestion, and not something you should just copy and paste.br /
br /
Take pride in what you write and if you are serious about writing, I can help you out as best as I can. |
