Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Technically a newbie at beta-reading under that name, though I've looked over and corrected my friend's stories for the better part of 6 years. I'd prefer that, if you would like me to beta-read for you, you will tell me what the fanfic is about, what fandom, pairing, etc. I'd like it if I was able to contact you at some point if I don't understand what you meant by something, but if not, I'll just make with it what I can. Your expectations of me would also be super helpful. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Imagery, characterization and making people feel are all my strong points. I'm not a bad speller and my grammar's pretty good too. I like to make things realistic. I make sure to keep the characters close to how they are, or to how I see them, and always try to make things fit with canon, even if it's AU. If I don't think Character A would say something like this, I don't let Character A say it; if they have to for plot purposes, it's changed in a way that Character A would say it. If something isn't working, I try to change it. I'm very persistant and always looking for ways to improve. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I use too many run-ons and fragments. I also don't always use semi-colons in the "proper" way. I like to write in my style, even if it's not grammatically correct. My fighting scenes are not very good, in my opinion, and I usually make them vague; sex scenes generally go the same way. Doesn't mean that I'm bad at editing them, though. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Drabbles or oneshots are preferred at the moment, though I'll take multi-chapter fics, as well. Spell well enough that I can tell what you mean, please. Familiarity with dialogue and spacing properly (ie, new paragraph when there is a new speaker, new topic, new suject, etc) is a must. Also, I need to be familiar with the series and characters! If there are subjects that could need research, please research them! |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Sappy stories, really mushy romance, insanely out of character with no good reason (drunkenness does not count), and CharacterxOC are DEFINITELY not my cup of tea. PWP, plotless, and crack aren't anything I really want to read over either. Random insertations of foreign languages with no reason (ie, the characters say it just 'cuz), character bashing, huge blocks of text with no spacing, and things that have obviously not been researched also severely annoy me. |
