Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I really love helping authors become better authors. Trully. Mainly because I often find myself in need of another set of eyes. My style as a beta-reader can be what you want of me. If there's something you'd like me to keep an eye on, by all means let me know. Otherwise I tend to be sporadic with my comments. I'll get nit-picky on a particular passage, or keep a tally on words you over-use. The more I like what you give me, the more critical I'll be. If you submit something I have no real interest in, I will let you know, but I try to keep as much of an open mind as possible. Keep in mind that I'm a bit busy, but I'll try to read what you submit at least for the first time the day I get it. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I enjoy critiquing word choice. I'm pretty spot-on as far as grammar, but I get sort of lazy. If you ask me to pay attention, though, I will make sure it's tight with a capital T. But I really do my best work with mood and word choice. I also like to encourage adding symbols or extending some image you have throughout your work. So if you're interested in perfecting some of the more subtle bits of your writing, I'll do what I can to help. I enjoy literary authors trying to go all-out. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Pacing. I'm fairly horrible with pacing since I'm not much good at writing perfectly paced stories. If you have pacing issues, I can probably tell, but my suggestions will be very vague and along the lines of 'add more stuff.' Totally unhelpful. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I really like angst, violence, drama, and over-the-top destruction. I'll also like romance that has something to it beyond fluff. But my preferred generes are action, drama, angst, horror, tragedy, etc., That is not to say that I don't like plain and simple goodness. If it's original, lay it on me. Also, I'm always looking for a really good old school Star Ocean fic (as in either SO, SO2, or Blue Sphere). So if you've got something in that area, I'll be happy to hook you up. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I don't really have a "will not do," but my sense of humor is particularly selective, so if you ask me to do something humorous, there is a strong chance that I will not 'get it.' Thus, if you want advice pertaining to 'how funny' something is, you're better off looking elsewhere, because I'm pretty useless. |
