Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I can speak three different languages fluently- Korean, English, and Gibberish. Translations are no problem! I am quite possibly the most un-intimidating person on earth, until you hand me a piece of fiction and ask me to beta it. I'm always online, so there's never a communication problem; I do, however, expect one thing from the authors that ask me to beta: CONSISTENCY! Please, try to establish some form of a schedule that doesn't keep me awake at four AM to beta your story! I have superhuman abilities, but I am not God. Yet. XD I can deal with virtually anything; all ratings, all genres. All I ask is for a writer to be faithful to his or her story- the rest IS my job, isn't it? ^^v My fandoms are large and varied, encompassing every section that FF.Net has to offer: Anime & Manga, TV Shows, Comics, Cartoons, Books, Movies, Games, and the occasional Miscellaneous. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar, spelling, mechanics. Easy. As. Pie. (or cake, rather.) I can pick out awkward phrases, stylistic mistakes, rhetorical mistakes (if you want me to be that thorough), as well as provide ideas, if you ask. I have a sense of humor that people can appreciate- or so I'm told- and expressive writing is one of many things that I've honed over the years I've been writing. If it's character or plot development, I can help with that. I've been betaing for over three years for various people, and I find it hard to come across a task I've never done before. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
despite my amazing talents up there *cough* I DO, however, tend to allow the writer some slack on the aspect of style. I do think, personally, that it's something that is beyond a beta reader's reach. the writer develops the idea, and goes with it... I'm just there to make sure it looks good. XD so if it's stylistic writing that you'd like to develop, or get HELP about, I hardly think I am the right person to ask. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
not necessarily. my fandoms have grown over the years, and I always enjoy learning more about one I don't know much about. so I don't have any preference- but there is strength in numbers, they say; the number of my fandoms in Anime & Manga greatly outnumbers my movie fandoms, I have to admit. but really, just hand it over and I'll see what I can do. ;D |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
inane babbling. despite the majority of FF.Net members, I've never actually had the (mis)fortune of reading a Mary Sue piece. Let's hope that it stays that way. |
