Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
My name is Ali and I'm going into my third-year of university as an English major (with a minor in French), so I have a pretty decent command of the language :3. I beta read for spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, consistency, flow, characterization, and plot development and though I'm definitely honest, I don't think I'm harsh. Generally, my revisions are pretty thorough: I point as many errors as I catch and I generally read through each fic more than once before I return it. We can discuss your needs in more specific detail via PM or email, but typically, I keep track of all my changes and I make suggestions to improve every aspect of the story throughout the document and in a summary at the end.br /

I expect you to treat me with respect and to have run your work through spellcheck before you send it because the fewer technical problems I have to fix, the more time, energy, and attention I can give to more important issues (e.g. characterization, plot, etc.). Please be clear and upfront about the content of your story as well because there are some things I'd rather not read and not all of them are on my list. I think I should add that if you're not prepared for constructive criticism, I'm probably not the best choice because as I said, I'm pretty straightforward and I genuinely don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. |

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Pacing and plot are two areas of weakness in my own writing-the former more so than the latter-but I can usually identify issues with both. I find it a little harder to suggest possible improvements, however, as these aren't my strong suits. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I tend to gravitate more towards romance-slash, het, and femslash-but I like gen as well and I'll read pretty much any genre, with a few exceptions :3.br /

Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
There aren't too many things I'll never read, but I generally prefer to avoid darkfic, horror, non-consensual/dubiously-consensual sex, and/or vampire AUs. I'd rather not read certain pairings as well, but they're fandom-specific and there are relatively few of them, so I'll save it for email (or PM). |
