Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello, my name is Koikitten, you may call me Koi.
I've always enjoyed reading fanfiction, and so when the beta reading feature was released, I jumped at the chance to beta read.
Now, I am very much into the "show, don't tell" style of writing. If you're telling me what's happening, I'll be bored silly. If you're showing me what's happening, I'll be glued to the screen, that is, if the story's any good.
I'd say I'm an average person when it comes to beta reading. If something is wrong with your story, I will tell you in a polite way, and if I love your story, I'll tell you that, too. However, I'm not exactly the most patient person, especially when it comes to poor grammar/spelling skills. One or two slip-ups are fine, but if the entire thing is a grammar nightmare, don't expect me to be "nice" about it. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I can tell you if your story is original, if it's something I think others will want to read, if your story flows, if it's easy to understand, and so on and so forth. I can also say if your characters are ridiculously OOC. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can't say that I am the best fanfic writer. My style is very much a "give them the surface, let them fill in the details" sort of thing, and there are many interpretations of my work, but I love reading all styles. However, my views on your work may be different from your views, and while I can come to a compromise most of the time, I will say right now I'm not the ideal beta reader for everyone. If you have to explain to me why you wrote something the way you did, then I'd recommend you don't publish the story as-is. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
ORIGINAL, ORIGINAL, ORIGINAL. No, that doesn't mean "Original Characters," or O.C.s. I love shipping, honestly, I do, but only if you make it a bit more interesting than "OMG I think I like him/her, I confess, we kiss, we develop our relationship, we have a baby..." OR you're an insanely talented writer. I'm not one for action/violence, unless it's short, sweet, and easy to follow, AND the storyline truly needs it. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Nope, I'm pretty open! |
