Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta-reader I tend to look mostly at characters and natural sounding dialogue. Another thing I look at is describing words and trying to make sure that sentences don't become 'stale' from using the same word all the time. I love the Thesaurus on my computer, even if it hates me. Another thing I look at is spelling and grammar errors.
I'm a visual person so when I beta I first read over the paper. Then I try to picture the characters in my head and read it over again. If anything seems like it's forced or rediculous I try to make it more natural. Along with this I check for grammar errors that are obvious. After that I leave it alone for a little while then get back to it and recheck for any errors I missed.
The only thing I ask from those who want me to beta is that they have a basic grasp of writing. Capitalization and periods. Anything else is optional and I'm more than willing to help with. |

For the most part I'm pretty good with characters and dialogue, though I'm also good with spelling. I can also find grammar errors however only a few not all. I'm also pretty good with description though that's more towards enviroments and not an actual characters emotions. |

I tend to miss run on sentences and may also accidentally create some while betaing. Another is that sometimes I will get 'there' and 'their' mixed up, however this is rare. Also stories with long chapters might not be checked as thoroughly due to a wondering mind. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
My preferences vary, but I like character driven sories. Length doesn't matter, I've read stories with incredibly short chapters and ones with incredibly long chapters. My preference for chapters though is no more than 5000 words. As for sections, I'll do NiGHTS, Code Lyoko, Avatar, Teen Titans, Storm Hawks and Danny Phantom. Stories can be K-M but I mostly go towards K+ and T. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Lemons and Yaoi. I have nothing against them it's just if I don't write it chances are I won't read it. Their are some exceptions though as I've read a few shounen-ai stories that I've enjoyed but for the most part those were in the Card Captor Sakura section and said shounen-ai was official canon. |
