Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love reading, fluid storytelling, the art of characterisation, and a well-told tale.
I've been writing fanfic for the last seven years, have a good grasp of language and flow, and an eye for plot and in-character dialogue. I don't sugar-coat my beta-reading. If I have issues with the story, I will tell you. If I like the story, I will tell you. I give both praise and criticism as I feel is necessary.
If you want me as a beta reader, then you need to want to improve - because I'm not a believer in settling for mediocre. I can and will encourage you as far as is possible, but that will not only involve spelling and grammar, but everything from the pacing of the plot down to the speech patterns and behaviour of a character. |

Characterisation, particularly of female characters and aliens. I'm fine with the usual grammar/spelling, and excellent at turning a phrase. I'm good with plot and okay for story pacing. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not very good at being nice - I have a very blunt, confrontational tone when I beta. Male buddy relationships are okay, but I'm very bad with girly female characters, or girly interactions. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Character stories, friendships, het, non-graphic slash, action-adventure and drama, mystery - things with plot. I can do romances as well, I just prefer action. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Non-consensual sex, rape, BDSM, character-bashing. SGA pairings: Sheppard/McKay, Sheppard/Weir, Teyla/Ronon. SG1 pairings: Jack/Daniel, Daniel/Teal'c. |
