Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
If you look at the stories I've published on this site (or even read them), you'll see that I enjoy writing yaoi and slash. Obviously, I enjoy romance. If you've read my work, you'll also know that I have a sense of humor and I like to use it in writing. I enjoy reading on a mature level and love well-thought-out plots. I also enjoy a good one-shot; it doesn't really matter how many chapters your story contains. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I will definitely be able correct grammar mistakes for you; I enjoy the English language and enjoy writing. I am very decent at spelling. I am probably best at romance and comedy, and possibly drama (since this is what I have the most experience writing about), but I'll beta-read for whatever genre the author has in mind. My favorite point of view to write from is first person because I like getting inside the main character's head, examining their inner thoughts and, as the plot progresses, seeing how they develop as a character. This point of view is usually more funny to read as well. But I have no problems writing for third person limited/omniscient. Another part of writing that I'm good at is dialogue; it's possibly my favorite part of writing. So if you're awkward with that, I'll be glad to help! I'm also not afraid of mature material- I'll probably embrace it if the author calls for it. This includes things like swearing and 'mature content' (sex- I've written various sex scenes, all of which included two males I think, but straight people are fine too, lol). If I agree to beta-read your story, I promise to commit to it. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
If I have never even heard of the show, movie, book (or whatever) that your fiction is based off of, then I will obviously not be of much use to you. I don't plan to try to become an expert for one show simply so that I can beta-read someone's fiction. However, I would look up extra information on a show (or whatever) if the author and I were both clueless at a certain point. I don't think those were technically weaknesses, but I just wanted to say it. A weakness might be description. I don't mean descriptions of characters or thoughts or plot, but of places. A room, for example. In my own writing, I always tell where the setting is at that moment and usually give a brief description of where the characters are, but I find it rather pointless to give a detailed description of everything in a bedroom unless it will contribute to the plot. But if asked, I will try to help with that more. Another thing that I don't have much of in my work is violence; I can handle it, but I simply don't have much experience with it. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I have a list of what I'll beta-read for in my beta-preferences. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
The types of stories that I will not betaread are those of which I know nothing about. That is to say, I will not betaread it if I don't know what it's based off of, or of the orginal plot. That's pretty much it; I hope this has been a help to you! |
