Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
"Writing is like killing babies."
No matter how much you love your brain babies, if you give me a piece to fix, it may come back mutilated. I will NOT fix plot issues: the plot is the author's domain (I will point out problems and holes for you, though). I WILL be harsh if you have bad grammar, but I will help you fix it, along with syntax and diction.
Also, look over your piece before AND after you ask me to fix it, so that I don't spend half my time fixing typos, and so you don't put up a piece that you don't like. If you disagree with my corrections, you don't have to keep them; I won't be offended. If you do keep my corrections, credit is much appreciated :) |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Oh, gee, I'm not good at bragging like this...I got an A in AP English, so spelling/grammar is not really a big issue. My specialties would be grammatical accuracy, sentence flow, and vocabulary. My dad is a writer, and I do occasionally proofread for him, so I can claim some non-fF.net experience. In short: I can make writing sound good.
PS: Since I've grown up in a multi-cultural household, I'm especially familiar with correcting work of people for whom English is not a second language. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have never beta-ed before, and have not authored a piece that really satisfied me [thus the discontinuation of my fics]. I sometimes have issues catching spell-check typos, even though the author should be the one catching those. I also have limited experience of the world, and have a hard time writing hardcore romance, fight scenes, and other blood and gore.
The biggest issue with me will probably be time: I AM GRADUATING IN A YEAR, AND HAVE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO. I've got college apps and marching band to worry about, so I'm not going to spend all my time on my computer. You may have to wait a bit to get a response from me. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm really not picky, as long as I know the genre/category. Unless I specify, just send me stuff and I'll see what I can do. I do enjoy crack pairings, though. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Lemons are awkward, don't send me them. I also don't do well with yaoi/yuri/shoujo-ai/shounen-ai, or whatever else you want to call it. I'm not against it personally, I just don't enjoy reading/writing about it. |
