Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Basically, I'm incredibly picky. My friends at school especially are used to me looking over their shoulders while they write, and correcting their spelling and grammar while they go along. This is pretty much what I can bring to you as a beta.
If you would like me to beta for you, I expect that you have a clear sense of being able to correctly spell and use grammar (as I WILL NOT beta anything that looks like some kind of verbal diarrhoea), and that you're polite about asking me. I will also not beta for you if you demand things of me.
I also request that you don't use the stupid DocX crap that ff.net wants you to use. Instead, feel free to contact me through AIM (Child of Skaro) or on MSN/through email (pinkpeophin AT hotmail.com) as I'm far more likely to be responsive there. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm not a professional, but I do excel at spelling, using grammar in a correct manner (within the constraints of artistic license, of course, I have absolutely no problems with stream-of-consciousness type writing/sentence fragments or anything like that, but I do have issues with incorrect usages of punctuation in normal terms) and being able to structure sentences correctly (also within the overall idea you have in your fanfiction).
I am also adept at picking out continuity errors or canonical errors in your fanfic (if you've written for a fandom I'm familiar with). I tend to get obsessive over particular things I like, so I'm able to see and point out errors in your writing that go against canon (obviously, this doesn't apply to an Alternature Universe fanfic, but I am able to point out character flaws that don't appear in the original character.) |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I generally take my time while betaing, which can be annoying to some people. I tend to read things more than once to make sure I've correctly interpreted sentence structure and the grammar used, to make sure I'm not correcting something that needs no correction. Please don't complain if you do select me to beta read for you and it takes me a long time to fix seemingly few mistakes; I am actually doing multiple readthroughs to pick out various aspects that may need to be altered. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I really don't mind. My preferred genres revolve around smut and angst (character death, torture, sadness etc.) but I honestly don't mind betaing something fluffy, or something set in an Alternate Universe, or something set in some kind of historical period. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'm incredibly open-minded, so there are very, very few fanfictions I won't read. However, I will not read your Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu fanfiction. I don't care if you think she/he is the most amazing thing in the world, if you press me to read it I will end up blocking you quite quickly.
I also have issues with certain kinks, eg. m-preg (which I will NEVER read, don't even attempt to ask me about it), use of bodily fluids in a sexual situation that AREN'T blood etc.. However, if you do have a particular racy kink in your fanfiction, contact me beforehand and explain said kink to me. I'm more likely to read it if it's explained and I understand exactly what's going on.
There are also certain fandoms I have listed that I will not read smut fanfiction for. If you send me a smut-oriented fanfiction for (for example) something like Crash Bandicoot or Spyro the Dragon, or certain Disney films (not including the Disney/Square-Enix video game Kingdom Hearts), I will not beta them for you. However, to be safe (as it can often depend on the mood I am in, and how graphic the fic is), please contact me with details of what occurs in the fanfic so I can decide for myself. |
