Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello! ^^ I am Reavien, also known as Ms. Fantastic around my closest of pals.
I'm a young fanfiction writer, myself...started writing around the age of 14 and am still writing to this day. I also have SIX outside-of-fanfiction stories I'm writing and plan on publishing one day...if I can...ever find time to finish them, that is. >>; I'm currently 16 years old, but don't let my youngness and teenageress fool you. I'm very thorough and love a good Ninja Turtle fanfiction...since that's basically the only fanfiction I read, IF I have time to read.
This is my first time Beta-Reading, so, I wouldn't really say I have much of a style or expectations...YET. ...and, I probably need to find MYSELF a Beta-reader. XD Considering I almost never preread or edit my own stories before posting...

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Well, I've never Beta Read before...hopefully that will change as soon as I have time to do so. X3 But when it comes to editting/revising and such (like we did for half of English class last semester), I'd say my key strengths are grammar, the way things are worded, detail, and imagery with scenes. Some of the things I find most important in a fanfiction, especially a fantasy or mystery, is detailed imagery...or having the ability to explain the image you, as an author, have in your head so vividly that others can see it, too. I'll add more here once I've started. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Oh boy, weaknesses. XD Well, once again, I've never Betaread before. But considering past experiences, I'd say some of my weakest points are definately: spelling, expanded vocabulary, and that I'm a bit easily amused. I mean, I have a good vocabulary...when I use this lovely thing called a Thesaurus (and even there I had to look up how to spell it). My spelling's never been really good and that's because of how I was taught to read. ^^; I have NO problem reading, but because of the way I taught myself to sound out certain letters, I don't read out loud well and that lead to a bit of a weakness in the spelling department. But I will definately do what I can to imrpove this. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
In general, I definately prefer Ninja Turtle fanfictions since that's my core obsession. ;P However, I do enjoy Ben 10 and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Heck, if you have a My Little Pony fanfiction, I'll read that, too....I love those things. *is now getting weird looks* ...yes. Ninja turtles and My Little Pony in the same package...
Anywho! I also prefer anything action/adventure/fantasy/mystery/humor. Those are definately my favorite genres. I don't really like angst...for some reason I just don't like it. And I will read SOME romances. It depends on the plotline, I guess, but I really don't get into romance, either. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I WILL -NOT- READ YAOI OR SLASH OF ANY KIND. There, got that out of my system. ;P I also prefer not to read angst, even though I might give it a try if you're honestly that desperate to find someone on this planet to read it. Some romances I won't read because...they're romances...and I don't really get into a romance novel. I don't really like anime that much, though I do like a bit of pokemon. I also do NOT like reality-TV fanfics...I totally perfer anything and allthings cartoon. I'll read SOME movie fics, depends on what they are...but my preferences are listed above. That's all I can think of at the momento. |
