Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello! ^^ I am Reavien.
I've been writing fanfiction since I was about 14 years old. :] ...none of that stuff was any good, but, hey, ya gotta start somewhere. I currently write Teen Titans/Justice League fanfics that are a tie-in to an alternate DC universe created by me and a close friend of mine, so, almost anything DC-related will catch my interest...especially Batman. I also enjoy my old fandom, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. ;]
I'm currently 18 years old and busy with pre-college stuff, such as applications, my art portfolio and scholarship essays. So, it might take me a day or two to reply to your PM if you send me a beta-request, but, chances are I'll be able to pull it off. Whether I can or can't beta read it immediately, I'll definitely reply to your PM asap.
As far as my beta-reading style, I'm a very flexible person. You just need to tell me what you want. Do I need to check for grammar errors? Make sure the characters are in character? Or do you need help generating a thought process of some sorts? Just tell me whatcha want, and I'll do my best to help you out. :]

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Well, I've never Beta Read before...hopefully that will change as soon as I have time to do so. X3 But when it comes to editting/revising and such (like we did for half of English class last semester), I'd say my key strengths are grammar, the way things are worded, detail, and imagery with scenes. Some of the things I find most important in a fanfiction, especially a fantasy or mystery, is detailed imagery...or having the ability to explain the image you, as an author, have in your head so vividly that others can see it, too. I'll add more here once I've started. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Oh boy, weaknesses. XD Well, once again, I've never Betaread before. But considering past experiences, I'd say some of my weakest points are definitely: spelling, expanded vocabulary, and that I'm a bit easily amused. I mean, I have a good vocabulary...when I use this lovely thing called a Thesaurus. My spelling's never been really good and that's because of how I was taught to read. ^^; I have NO problem reading, but because of the way I taught myself to sound out certain letters, I don't read out loud well and that lead to a bit of a weakness in the spelling department. But I will definitely do what I can to improve this. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
In general, I definitely prefer Teen Titan or Justice League fanfictions since that's my core obsession. ;P However, I do enjoy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Heck, if you have a My Little Pony fanfiction, I'll read that, too....I love those things. *is now getting weird looks* ...yes. Teen Titans and My Little Pony in the same package...I'm just spiff'n like that
As far as genres, I'll read just about anything. Horror, comedy, romance, whatever. *shrug* Like I said, I'm flexible. Mostly, for me, it's the plotline. What's the story about? as comparison to What genre is it?. And when it comes to rating, I WILL read up to "M", but, once we get up into that area, I start getting picky. I'll read "M" generally if it's that way for extreme action and occasionally gore. Like I said, it depends on the plotline. Please give me a major heads up if you want me to beta read your "M" fanfic. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I WILL -NOT- READ YAOI OR SLASH OF ANY KIND. There, got that out of my system. ;P I will also not read most anime, considering I don't know zilch about anime because I just don't LIKE most anime.
I won't read anything overloaded with angst. I mean, angst is good. I like my dosage of angst in the morning. But if your fanfic is nothing but dripping with it--like, there's not an ounce of happiness in it at all--I'm afraid I just can't read that. I need at least ONE ray of sunlight here or there.
Also, going back to the "M" fic subject, I won't read anything dripping with curse-words. I'm sorry, but, f-bombs are NOT my cup of tea. I can't stand vulgar language being spoken around me and I will certainly avoid reading it if I can. I also won't read anything that's straight up sex. I'll read a few 'hawt' scenes here and there, but, I will not read straight up sex. ...I don't think you WANT me reading anything straight up sex, anyway, considering I've never been in any sort of relationship 8D. So, I probably wouldn't be of any help for you there, even if I wanted to read it. x] |
