Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hi There. My name is Sarah Clark (or The Umbrella here on FF.net OR umbrellas_can on livejournal.com).
As far as beta-reading goes, I'm providing my services to y'all not just for your sake but for mine as well. I've been off and on this site for nearly a decade and over the years I've seen more and more stories posted here that are in sore need of review and editing (and spell check, for the love of God, spell check!). For you I offer my eyes and my fresh perspective.
Please note that if I find something amiss with your story - of if I see something that just doesn't work and needs to be changed - I will tell you. No sugar coating. Expect constructive criticism. If you are serious about writing then it will be something you need to get used to anyway. If you're doing this on a lark then . . . well . . . if this is just a lark you really don't need a beta-reader, do you? Eh. You're call.
I hope to hear from you soon! :)

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My strengths include grammar, spelling, sentence/paragraph structure, vocab, and plot-hole detection. Plot-holes are the bane of all stories (except crack!fics), so finding those before posting can be a real lifesaver. Story-saver. Whichever. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My weakness would probably be my lack of knowledge about most of the fandoms on this site. I know that most people are not looking for beta-readers to look critically at the fandom and see how their story falls into line with it (if it does at all). I just feel that if I knew more about the fandoms I'd be better able to assess the story in general. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm open to all genres, all pairings, all ratings. I would prefer to beta serious attempts at writing. You can be any level writer (beginner or expert, doesn't matter), just as long as you actually put some effort into your story. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will not look at some crap pieced together by you and your friends at a sleepover which you then thought would be funny to post online and see what people say. No. I will not look at that. No crack!fics. |
