Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader In general when I beta I go through two main steps. First I read a chapter to get the feel of it, then I read it again to correct any grammar mistakes. I prefer documents sent to me in Word of rtf file types, although I can also open Word Perfect. In general I'm a supportive reader, although if I see sincere problems in your work I'll cite you on it. I have a BA in English and in general I love helping people improve their work. At the moment, I'd like to help people who want someone to read their work and provide an honest opinion, as opposed to someone who needs extensive beta-ing. I only say this because I am the beta for another author on this site and their work will come first. However if you're working on a fic, and you like what you have but you're not sure and you want someone to talk to about it, I'm probably a good person for you. | My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths Above average grammar skills Attention to sentence structure Working knowledge of the HP world (comes in handy in fan fiction) Good judge of Plot Quick chapter turn around. Tips for Organizing a story outline Critical reader of story voice | My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses I would never say that my grammar is perfect, I've had issues in the past myself. However, as I say it is above average. I occasionally get involved in weighty thought verses using action language, as such I'm not as likely to call you on it. Although I try to be critical. | Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others Action based stories. Particularly AU, Time Travel, Crossovers. I'm familiar with some anime and manga, but that largely depends on how knowledgeable I am in the subject. Oneshots. | Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for Romance. Any nauseating Ginny/Harry stuff won't be enjoyed. Slash isn't something I read so I doubt I'd be a good critic. A story where a new 37 page chapter will appear every week, as I say I have some prior beta commitments and if you plan on giving me such a masterpiece, I may not be able to devote my time towards giving it a through editing, although I'd gladly share my opinions. |
