Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader My name is Katie. I generally get stories back to people within a few days, but I'm graduating college soon, so the speed will probably decrease once I'm home and have no Internet.
I use Microsoft Word (2007), and I tend to use the comments feature. If you don't know how to use this, I'm more than willing to go through and make all my comments/corrections in a different color so you can see the changes I've made and decide which changes you like and which you don't. When I'm not using the comments feature, I generally point out corrections in red and suggestions/comments on the story in blue (obviously colors can change).
I hope to be a copyeditor after I graduate, and I'm a copyeditor at my college's magazine, so you can be fairly certain I know what I'm talking about. | My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths I'm best at grammar and punctuation, small details like that. | My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses While I can generally point out areas I feel could be improved, I generally don't comment on the storyline unless asked. If the story is a work in progess, I often forget earlier sections of the story, so I am not as good with making sure everything is consistent in that sense. | Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others I prefer stories with at least one mopey/insecure character, but that's just because I find those the most fun to read. Other than that, it really doesn't matter much. | Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for I don't want to beta-read a story someone obviously spent less than five minutes on (i.e. something I'm going to have to basically rewrite to make it grammatically correct), but that's it. As long as it's fairly well written, I'll read almost anything. |
