Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Honest and critical - but not scary! Willing to chat about themes, plots and possible improvements, but accepting of an author's prerogative. Write myself, so realise the importance of a piece to its creator.
Usually read the fic once to understand its structure and focus, then re-read for spelling, punctuation and grammar. Characterisation comes last, but is still very important to me! The canon/fanon boundary is constantly merging; when one can be seen as the other is a good fic, in my opinion!
Authors should be willing to take on board constructive criticism and occasional nit-picking. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Am a perfectionist when it comes to spelling, punctuation and grammar. I hate typos, so am constantly on the hunt for them.
Any category I beta for will be pre-selected; I will only edit for categories I know about. As characterisation is so important, general beta reading is not an option. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Often get too involved in a story! Prepare to be bombarded by urgings to update...
I am a fan of dialogue - if it doesn't flow then I may well tell you so, but always with helpful advice, I promise! |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I love adventure, hurt/comfort and family fics, but angst is good too. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Not a huge fan of romance, although would be willing as long as it was not PWP. No death fics please! |
