Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader I have been writing on this site since 2006. My early fiction is all based in Final Fantasy IV, my favorite video game; my more recent craze is the movie 9. Because I have been publishing for quite a few years, I've watched my own personal style change and grow into something amazing. I'm truly thrilled to help other writters grow in the same way.
Through being a Beta reader, I really hope to learn more about myself as a teacher and a sisterly mentor. I am pretty good at looking at someone's original work and flowing with it, assimilating its basic self, and finding ways to polish it, rather than make my own mark on it. I want the author's voice and message to shine through as clearly as possible; if I can help one person on this site achieve that, I know I have done my job. | My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths I am an excellent wordsmith. I have a huge vocabulary already, and it is forever expanding. And, when in doubt, I always turn to a dictionary for help. I am all about choosing the right words for a sentence, even if it takes 5 minutes of gazing into space to find it. | My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses My word choice is great. My spelling sucks sometimes.
Also, in large paragraphs with lots of action, I may accidentally skip through it all to get back to the dialogue. I'm all about the story, not so much the battle scenes. Which is dumb, because I was bottle-fed Final Fantasy fics for the first three or so years on this site... :P I promise, with all my heart, to pay sharp attention to action sequences, so that I Betaread them as well as the dialogue. | Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others An epic with a good, solid plot is the type of story I want to Beatread for. I'll gladly take good oneshots, as well. But please, give me something thick and juicy to chew on! I am a cerebral writter, and I need something bigger and deeper than a fluff oneshot. | Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for Do not give me hardcore yaoi, yuri, or explicit adult material to Betaread. Foul language and violence, I can handle. A mild homosexual relationship is fine; but I refuse to do sex. Don't even go there.
Random, mindless fluff oneshots are also advised to stay away. I tend to get very frustrated with fluff, unless it's going somewhere with an actual story. (See above...) |
