Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've been called a "grammar-nazi" for the larger part of my life and I admit, that description is quite true. I have an eye for grammar and honestly can't stand reading bad English. I am very strict when it comes to grammar.
As a Beta, this is my modus operandi:
1) As soon as I receive a new chapter or a story, I give it the once-over and fix up spelling, grammar and punctuation.
2) After a while (anywhere between a few hours and a few days), I skim through the document again, check my edits and muse about the plot. I do this after a while because then, my mind is fresher and I'd have ideas on how to make the chapter sound better.
3) Lastly, after deciding what is to be done, I reconstruct sentences and paragraphs and go over the document one more time. After I'm satisfied with it, I send it back.
I'm pretty thorough, as you can see. I'd prefer it if you could e-mail me the summary of your story. Plans (i.e. how you're going to write the fic and what you plan to do in what chapter) are welcome too.
My expectations are minimum: when in contact with me (i.e. through author's notes, e-mails, Private Messages etc.), I require standard grammar to be used. Just because you're off-duty doesn't mean I'm going to tolerate chatspeak (which I absolutely abhor). If you can take the effort to do that, that would be awesome :-) I'd appreciate it if you credit me either at the beginning or end of the chapter as I'm going to be taking time out to help you. Please don't freak out if I'm a little late in returning your chapter/story; I have a crazy life >_>" Also, I'd appreciate it if you tell me what you think of the Beta-ed version of the chapter once you receive it. |

My strengths include:
1) Spelling,
2) Grammar,
3) Punctuation,
4) Passage Reconstruction,
5) Plot discussion and ideas (i.e. I can help you out when you have Writer's Block or help to expand your storyline)
Please note that I use English-UK by default when editing. If you want me to use your standard variation (i.e. English-US, English-Australia), then let me know so I don't score off words like "color" for being spelled wrong! :P |

Stories that make sense and actually have a plot instead of those which deal only with romance between the main pairing. I'm not much of a romantic, but that doesn't mean I won't edit your fic. All I'm asking for is at least a secondary storyline besides the romance =_= |

Stories which make no sense and contain no plot whatsoever except smut and romance and authors who do nothing except plagiarise ideas. |
