Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader As a betareader, I always obsessively go over the story I am beta-ing and even read it aloud a few times, just to check for any errors the author may have made. I always work with the author to correct any problems such as spelling, transition, grammar, plot continuity, and others. I always highlight what I have corrected and do my very best to explain why I changed something in a story (and always ask the author's permission first!)br /

If you ask me to beta for you, you can expect me to be very personal and up-front about what worked and what didn't, give suggestions as to how you can improve, and to write up notes at the end of each chapter detailing what I personally liked as well as some things you should go over (as in, stuff that didn't make sense to me). | My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths I excel at spotting plot continuity errors, grammar errors, tense confusion, Out-of-characterness, incorrect punctuation, misspellings, incorrect sentence structure, and the like. I am also very good at correcting the overall structure of a story so that it flows better, and I have an extensive vocabulary that helps prevent a story from sounding repetitive (but that won't ever make it sound like a term paper!). I will work in tandem with any author to help their plot and am also veeeeeery good at being descriptive; I cannot promise that I'll write the story for you, but if you need help with a description I'll be all over it in a second. I have very good eyes, and will usually catch almost every single mistake an author has made (if any). | My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses As a writer, I often lack confidence in my own work; I also fall victim to over-detailing and stretching out my fics to the point where they become bogged down in unnecessary detail. As a betareader, I will often get frustrated if there are too many misspellings or grammatical errors in a story: to me, this means that the author is being careless and ignorant. | Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others I prefer betareading stories in the Glee or South of Nowhere fandoms. | Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for There aren't any types of fiction that I would not betaread due to their content; however, I prefer to betaread stories that are written for the Glee or South of Nowhere fandoms. I would rather not beta fanfiction that is not written for that fandom because I would not be well-versed in spotting OOC-ness, plot continuity, etc., and would therefore basically half-ass the job (which I am never comfortable with!). |
