Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I have quite a bit of betareading experience. I really love to edit -- I'm considering a career in English and editing, and because it's something that I adore doing, you can count on me to be devoted to your fiction. As far as requirements go, I'm not picky, but anyone I beta must be devoted to their fiction and willing to take criticism. If I tell you to change something, chances are it needs to be changed. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm really very good with the English language, or so I like to think. I have a knack for word flow and diction in particular. I'm good at weeding out awkward sounding phrases or choosing better words where they are needed. I am also a grammar nazi, and though I am liable to throw in a few too many commas myself, I am well-versed in all things grammatical and can catch most mistakes. Also, I'm only going to sign up for catagories that I'm very well-versed in, so I should be good at eliminating OOCness. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am slow to return stories, occasionally -- though I am thorough. I have a life outside the internet, as crazy as that may sound, and it may be a little while before I can get back to you, depending on my schedule. Also, there are times when I tend to be a little too critical. Sometimes I just expect stories to sound like mine, and so I unconciously start giving suggestions that sound a bit too much like my style. Know that when that happens (which it probably will!) you have the right to say no and slap me across the face -- I'm just making suggestions. =D |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm going to go ahead and put myself down in a few catagories that I am very familiar with -- but let it be known that I don't stray too far outside the realm of Fullmetal Alchemist. That is my favorite and always will be. And in the realm of FMA, I am particularly fond of angst and hurt/comfort stories, particularly with Ed playing leading man. Mind this isn't the only thing I'll read, but if you give me a story like this, I'm probably going to get it done faster. ;D |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'll do pretty much anything, actually. While I'm not particularily fond of yaoi/yuri/shounen-ai/shoujo-ai, I am definitely not opposed to betareading it, so long as it is tasteful and something resembling IC (that is what I'm here to fix, after all!).
I absolutely will not do porn, however, and I'm vehemently opposed to Mary Sues and most OCs that find twu wuv in a main character. |
