Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader I will check grammar, spelling, verb tenses, as well as awkward sentence phrasing and descriptions. Plot holes will be pointed out, and I will rearrange formatting or scene order to make a story flow more effectively. I will not beta anything that has not already been read through at least once, spellchecked, and completed. I will not beta WIP's. | My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths I have exceptional spelling and grammar. I am very, very skilled at recognizing when words are used incorrectly, or when another would be more effective. I am also very, very thorough. I have a large vocabulary and am familiar with structural grammatical differences that are indicative of various accents/places of origin. I have (some) familiarity with French and Latin as well, and a solid understanding of most scientific/biological/neurological processes. I have no problem beta-reading extremely long fics (over 25 000 words), so long as the story is complete. | My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses I'm a perfectionist, and have a tendency to try to alter a writing style. Sometimes I will not be able to offer constructive criticism; only vague hints. I am also likely to point out inconsistencies whether or not they detract from the plot. I will argue over characterization and plot points. I also may take a lot of time to complete a beta-read, depending on my personal schedule. | Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others I prefer finished stories. If I can't get my hands on the entire thing, I won't beta it. Gen and friendship fic preferred, but I will also beta stories with pairings, so long as there is also a substantial plot OR unique characterization. Use of secondary and tertiary characters instead of main characters is something I love. I will read/beta both gen, slash/femslash, and het. | Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for No stories which either mock or idolize religion (of ANY sort); nothing where GOD plays a major part (excluding Pratchett/Gaiman 'verses). No Mary Sues (or Gary Stus). No non-con or dub-con (even off-scene or implied). While I have no problem with Original Characters, I require at least one main character in the story to be an established canon character. |
