Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader I started betaing Harry Potter fanfiction around late 2006/early 2007 and I enjoy it because I can help improve others' and my own writing. When I beta, I have a tendency to explain why I would change something and give suggestions on how to improve sentence structure and flow, but I won't if you don't want that. I enjoy helping people evolve in their writing, so if you want to improve your writing in general, plot 'things' like foreshadowing . . . I'm willing to help! I'll beta any rating and most genres of stories. | My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths Genre-wise, my strength is angst. Driving people mad is also a strength of mine, at least in stories because I enjoy reading about psycology and sociology a lot and I am told I'm pretty good at understanding nearly anyone's point of view. I like character development. The human mind is a complex thing and I enjoy observing people's -- and my own -- reactions . . . anything is possible. I can distance myself from my personal views when it comes to betaing, so even if I don't like a ship or a plot line personally, I can beta it objectively. | My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses I'm not very good at writing action scenes, but I probably could supply suggestions if need be. Also, I'm not the best at writing with uniform tense, but I'm better at recognizing it while reading than writing it. I also take a lot more care editing other people's fics than my own . . . The vocab stored in my head isn't the most colorful rainbow out there, but I'm friends with the thesaurus. | Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others Generally, I prefer reading Harry Potter fanfictions, but I am willing to beta for any of the books and TV shows I have listed. I haven't read Everworld in awhile, so I'd be a bit rusty on that. Some TV shows I have listed, I haven't finished the entire series so I may not be informed of all characters and events, but I'll get there eventually. I don't usually read romance fics, but I enjoy those stories that focus on the developement of the relationship. I am willing to beta the occasional smutty, kinky, and/or plotless fics, though. Not a lot squicks me. Preferred ships for Harry Potter are: Severus/Harry (Snarry), Severus/Remus, Severus/Hermione, Remus/Sirius. Ships I also like, but am a bit more picky about enjoying are: Harry/Remus, Harry/Draco. I really enjoy long stories. Plot twists that keep me at the edge of my seat wondering what is going on make me very, very happy. I also like oneshots, so a fic of any length is fine by me. I love crossovers. I like mixing worlds that shouldn't make any sense at all and doing my best to make them work. Crossovers that I'm especially interested in are Harry Potter/Stargate, Harry Potter/House M.D., Harry Potter/Dark Angel, Harry Potter/Animorphs, Harry Potter/Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harry Potter/Pendragon, Harry Potter/Charmed . . . pretty much Harry Potter mixed with other worlds that I enjoy. If you're interested in writing a crossover like that, but are clueless as to how to make it . . . well, somewhat 'realistic', I'm very willing to help. I like puzzles like that. | Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for I'm usually up for anything. I do not like stories where there is pointless bashing of characters (I can see making a character 'bad', but bashing is something I'm not fond of), bashing of beliefs, and pretty much bashing in general. I feel it nearly always makes the story . . . *shrugs* |
